According to Palm Beach Daily News, the long-awaited reopening of the Palm House Hotel on Royal Palm Way is set for November, marking a major milestone for the luxury property that has been closed for 17 years. The iconic hotel will be the first U.S. location in the prestigious portfolio of Iconic Luxury Hotels, a British brand known for its opulent destinations.
A Landmark Reborn
Located on one of Palm Beach's most prominent streets, the Palm House Hotel has been under renovation since 2019, following its acquisition by L+R Hotels in a $39.6 million court-approved deal. The extensive renovation aimed to transform the property into a premier luxury destination, with 79 rooms, including 21 suites, and an expansive courtyard featuring a pool, garden terrace, and event space.
The hotel’s reopening has been highly anticipated, as many Palm Beach locals doubted this day would come. Bobbie Lindsay, President of the Palm Beach Town Council, expressed her excitement, noting that the owners have been diligent in addressing community concerns throughout the renovation process.
A New Era for Iconic Luxury Hotels
The Palm House is now part of the exclusive Iconic Luxury Hotels brand, which includes renowned properties like Cliveden House in the UK and Italy’s Excelsior Venice, home to the Venice International Film Festival. Francisco Macedo, Senior VP of Iconic Luxury Hotels, called the upcoming launch "an exciting step for L+R Hotels as we expand our global portfolio." Andrew Stembridge, the brand’s Executive Director, emphasized the significance of this new U.S. venture in the brand’s ongoing growth.
A Luxurious Stay Awaits
Designed to offer a world-class experience, the Palm House will cater to the most discerning guests. Room rates are expected to start at $1,289 during peak season, with off-season rates dropping to $499. The hotel will also include three signature suites, among them a “Presidential Suite” featuring a double-height living area with balcony views of the pool.
Although the hotel has not officially announced details about its on-site restaurant, plans indicate that it will offer a dining room and bar area for guests to enjoy.
Overcoming Challenges
The hotel’s path to reopening has been far from smooth. After changing ownership multiple times and being embroiled in legal issues—including fraud and money laundering charges against previous owner Robert V. Matthews—the property faced years of delayed construction. More recently, the pandemic and unexpected renovation issues further postponed the reopening.
Despite these challenges, the hotel’s team, led by architect Sean McLendon of Cooper Carry, persisted in delivering a high-quality renovation that met the town's stringent architectural standards. After overcoming numerous hurdles, the Palm House is ready to reclaim its status as a premier destination in Palm Beach.
A Bright Future
With its reopening, the Palm House joins a prestigious roster of luxury hotels in Palm Beach, including The Breakers, The Colony, and The Brazilian Court. The property’s revitalization is set to enhance Palm Beach’s status as a world-renowned destination for luxury travel.
Palm Beach Mayor Danielle Moore shared her optimism about the hotel’s impact on the community, noting, "Residents will be thrilled to see the end of construction and the start of a new chapter for the Palm House."
This November, the Palm House is poised to offer an unforgettable experience in the heart of one of America’s most exclusive beachside communities.
